This past October 4, 2021, on the Feast of St. Francis, our Motherhouse Care of Creation Team put forward an eco-challenge to stop the use of plastic water bottles and straws. This Catholic Sisters Week, the Amityville Dominicans challenge you to reduce plastic waste with reusable bottles, utensils, containers, bags and more. Please consider buying and using products with minimal or no plastic packaging.
Feel free to research and use your own plastic-free/zero waste products, but to help you start, here’s a list of a few companies who produce reusable and plastic-free products:

The Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville, NY have been involved in care of the earth for years now. made a commitment to Pope Francis’ Laudato Si Platform in December 2021. We invested with other congregations in the Dominican Climate fund. Our motherhouse has geothermal heating and has installed solar panels on some buildings. We sponsor Homecoming Farm, a certified organic CSA farm. We have entered into conservation easement agreements on our properties. We continue to pray, discuss, research and teach about ecology, conservation and sustainability.
