Book Sharing: Creation and the Cross by Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ
Wednesdays: April 19, May 3, May 17 ~ 6:30-8:00 PM
In a collaborative gathering between Amityville Dominicans and Brentwood Josephites we will explore Elizabeth Johnson’s ground-breaking exploration of an understanding of redemption that moves beyond human salvation to include all created beings. In so doing Johnson respectfully suggests the retirement of the idea that Jesus’ death on the cross was required as atonement for human sin—a theology laid out by the eleventh-century theologian St. Anselm. Join us to ponder God’s abundant mercy for a planet in peril.
At the May 17th session we will welcome author of the book Elizabeth Johnson, CSJ who will join in the sharing and conversation. Start reading soon, as we will discuss pages 1-63 at our first gathering.
